Backpack yesterday. Anorak tomorrow.

05.B/Material innovations.

For this product, we have finally closed the loop. What started as a backpack has now successfully been recycled into new Spinnova fibre and made into an anorak. We have also woven Spinnova yarn together with Organic Cotton yarn and Tencel yarn to make a fabric that is significantly improved and that can successfully carry a performance surface finish.

Halley Stevensons have used their newest innovation - EverWax Olive on this garment as a world’s first. This exciting new development offers good overall weather performance, similar to traditional paraffin waxes, however uses all-natural plant-based waxes and oils consisting of a blend of olive oil, rapeseed and castor bean.

Olive oil and wax are non GMO and are natural by-products from the food industry. We use the low-grade triglycerides which is waste steam from manufacturing virgin olive oil. Grown in northern Europe, rapeseed is chosen for this blend for its carbon footprint and non GMO properties. Castor beans originate from India. It is a resilient crop, pest resistant, tolerant to drought and suitable for marginal land cultivation. Once the oil has been removed, the by-products can be used for various products.

All components are biodegradable and considered vegan friendly. Additionally, the fabric can be re-proofed, extending the lifespan of items made from it.

Locally made

The anoraks have been manufactured at Hancock of Scotland – a company with over 200 years of experience making apparel.
